Shaving wax. Mustache wax.
Beard balm. Shaving cream.

Many people know the difference between beard wax and mustache wax, but at the moment of use they put their finger in their mouth. This guide contains instructions for using different waxes.

Natural waxes
is a tough thing.

One of the most common questions we get is related to the use of beard and mustache waxes, more specifically the hardness of the waxes and how to get them out of the jar. However, this is completely normal for natural waxes intended for styling beards, mustaches or hair. A hard composition in these products is necessary, because without chemical substances, the soft wax cannot be made to solidify more than its amount, so the hold is not enough for a styling product. Of course, this only applies to 100% natural styling products such asShave Club for waxes.

Natural wax = Hard texture = Shapes the beard

But even our very strong mustache wax is not so hard that you can't take it out of the jar! Below are step-by-step instructions for using hard and natural waxes.

Waxes for every situation

There are a lot of different waxes on the market, here are a few basic products and their uses.

Mustache wax – Control stubborn hairs

Mustache waxeshas many origins, but they all have the same basic purpose, to straighten stubborn mustache hairs. When purchasing mustache wax, the most important thing to consider is the grip. If your mustache is wire-hard, you should choose a medium-strength or strong wax, while thin and soft mustaches can be stretched with a light grip.

Beard wax – Shapeability as a priority

Shaving waxis mainly a styling product for the beard, not so much an agent focused on maintenance. Shaving waxes are 100% natural shaving waxes with a strong hold produced at our factory in Sotkamo. We have moved the other beard waxes in our selection to the beard balms category due to their poor formability.

Beard balm – Grooming as a priority

Beard balmis a general name for caring and lighter shaving creams and waxes. The primary purpose of these products is to care for and protect beard hair, but some wax-based balms also give a bit of shapeability. An example of a wax-based balm isShave Club beard balmswhich have a light grip but excellent careability.

Compositions
to many departures.

Beard wax, beard balm / shaving cream and mustache wax. All these product names refer to the same type of product, with different compositions and uses. Let's start with the hardest one, i.e. mustache wax. The composition of mustache wax is almost always very hard, scratchy with a fingernail. Similarly, shaving wax is often hard stuff and is easiest to get out of the jar by scratching with a fingernail.Instructions for use are below.

Beard balm = Soft beard wax = Very soft mustache wax

Beard balms, on the other hand, vary from medium to very runny and everything in between. As a rule of thumb, the harder the balm, the better the hold for styling.Shave Club beard balmsend up on the hardest end of this scale. For exampleZewandSalmiakki balmare located in the middle stages, i.e. a creamy composition that can be easily taken with the finger, whileIn Prorason beard balmsis a completely runny formula.

1. Scrape the wax with your fingernail

Some of the natural waxes are so hard that you have to scrape them off the jar with your fingernail. However, this is normal, don't worry.

2. Take the appropriate amount of wax

We recommend taking a little less wax than you would think because it is easier to add than to reduce.

3. Heat the wax

Warm the wax between your fingers, or palms, by rubbing them together. When the wax starts to melt, it can be spread.

4. Apply and shape

Apply the wax to the beard and/or mustache evenly and shape it first by hand and, if desired, with a comb or brush. Ready!
