- Traditional pomme/apple fragrance with a twist of peppermint
Packaging
Reuzel's printed, matte metal jar with screw cap. Feels good in the hand. The metal is a bit thinner, so the jar may show small traces of use if you throw it around too roughly. So don't :D
Composition
Clearly fatter than pink Reuzel, and thus also softer. The surface is a bit harder here too, but when you press a little, your finger easily sinks into the pomade. Spreads easily on hands. The color is light green.
Scent
Many people may be familiar with the familiar apple scent of Garnier Fructis from the supermarket shelves. This is quite similar to it. The fresh scent is quite soft, so although it is quite strong, it is not pungent.
Distribution
Spreads into the hair almost as easily as the lightest hair creams. The comb also untangles through the hair completely effortlessly. No problem in this area.
Good control helps to get even slightly curlier hair where you want it during the styling phase. You can easily adjust the hold and shine with the hair's moisture. You get more shine on towel-dried, slightly damp hair, but then the hold drops a little lower. If you blow-dry your hair completely dry, you will get more hold. In this case, the shine won't be as much, but Reuzel's styling water works as a good topper here too, if you want shine.
Result
The shine, depending on the moisture of the hair, is like medium plus. The hair feels and looks quite light for an oil-based pomade.
At the end of the day
The shine doesn't really disappear anywhere, and your hair can be restyled until the evening. In the hot weather, high hairstyles might get a bit dull, but why would there be days like that in Finland? But if you are in some other area or going on a trip...Good to know.
Washing
A positive surprise. This doesn't come off with any water, not even completely after the first wash with regular shampoo, but still much easier than most oil-based pomades. A big plus here.
Manufacturing
The company behind Reuzel is Dutch and the well-known Schorem barber is in Rotterdam, but all their products are made in the USA.
Shave Club Verdict
Still our number one recommendation as a first oil-based pomade for most people. A pomade that acts like a typical Reuzel pomade, with a few significant pluses. You can't go terribly wrong with this green pig.
