Packaging
Reuzel's printed, matte metal jar with screw cap. Feels good in the hand. The metal is a bit thinner, so the jar may show small traces of use if you throw it in the cupboard.
Composition
Reuzel's first water-based one is jelly-like, quite thick and sticky in texture. Easy to spread on hands, not so sticky.
Scent
A clean and sweet butterscotch scent in our nose, but Vanilla Coke according to Reuzel, either way...we like. And as Reuzel products in general, the scent is quite strong, but definitely one of the best pomades out there. This is what Reuzel knows.
Distribution
Spreads easily and evenly on the hair. You don't have to mess with this. The control, i.e. how easy it is to arrange the hair the way you want, is really good. The only challenge here is the quick drying. So you have to be quick with your formatting, but that shouldn't be a problem.
Result
Red Reuzel doesn't offer much shine. With damp hair, you can get a little more of it, but you won't get a proper shine with this product alone. The grip seems to be quite good, maybe medium plus. The pomade hardens very quickly and locks the hair well in place.
At the end of the day
You don't have to dream much about reformatability with this one. You put your hair how you want and that's it. With water, this can be activated a little, but even that leaves a little to be desired. It's best to just put your hair up at once and not wear anything like a cap, sweat or go outside in the rain. Then the red Reuzel can manage to keep the hair in patterns well into the evening. Even a little shine leaves within the first hour.
Washing
In the style of a regular water-based one, leaves the hair with just water. So washing will not cause any kind of problem.
Manufacturing
The company behind Reuzel is Dutch and the famous Schorem barber is in Rotterdam, but all their products are made in the USA.
Shave Club Verdict
A really ordinary water-based pomade. Does what it promises, but not much more. A good basic product for your pomade arsenal. Plus the really good control and smell.
